Payments and fintech

Know your customers once. Let them prove it everywhere.

For payment apps, wallets and fintech platforms that serve small businesses and their customers. Check a person or a business once, give them a credential they keep, and hold almost none of their data.

What gets in the way today

  • You pay to check the same customer again, and so does every other platform they join.
  • You store passports and selfies you would rather not hold.
  • Merchants need proof they are real, and their customers need proof that passes are genuine.

What you can do with VU

Each one says how far it has got: live, in early access, or coming.

Live

Onboard a customer once

Check them with your own ID-check provider, then send VU the result. It becomes a credential in their wallet, so you never ask for their documents again.

Verify your merchants

When you approve a business, a verified-business credential lands in its wallet. Anyone can confirm it is real with one scan.

Check passports in your app

Our app kit reads the passport chip, checks the government's signature and matches a live face, for anyone with a chip passport. Each person is screened against UK, EU and US sanctions lists at that moment, and VU keeps nothing about them, except while a possible match is reviewed.

Way 2: We check, in your app

Customer story

How Safewire, our first customer, does it.

Maya has her ID checked once in the Safewire app. Phone, email, identity and over-18 cards arrive in her wallet, issued by VU Credentials. At a shop she scans a code and taps Approve, and the shop learns only that she is over 18: no name, no birthday.

Verify once, use anywhere: a 30-second film

Harbour Coffee Co. applies once in the Safewire app. Once approved, a Business card lands in the owner's wallet, so the business can take payments, be listed on Safewire's map and restore the card on a new phone. A supplier then confirms the business with one scan.

Straight answers

Can I rely on VU for my customer checks?
VU checks the passport chip, matches the face and screens sanctions lists. VU is not yet certified as a UK digital identity provider. Certification is on our roadmap. Until then, UK firms regulated for money laundering should keep their own provider.
Does VU see my customers' documents?
When you check them yourself, no: VU receives only the result you send. When VU checks a passport, it keeps proofs, not data: no passport contents, and no face images after an automatic decision.
Where can I use VU?
VU serves businesses in any country except those under sanctions, and the passport check reads chip passports from countries around the world.
